Each Miłość i Spokój handpan is custom-made, according to the configuration determined for a specific client. Specialized craftsmen are responsible for the entire instrument, and the sound fields and tuning, crucial to its sound, are performed by hand.
As the manufacturer, I help you select the scale, number of notes, tuning frequency, and desired sound character. I then submit the agreed-upon parameters for implementation, and before shipping, I personally test the finished instrument in Gdańsk.
The role of makers in the performance of handpan
The makers are responsible for preparing the entire instrument according to the established configuration. Their manual work on the sound fields is particularly important, as these surfaces are responsible for individual notes and their response to touch.
Each sound field is carefully shaped and then precisely tuned. Maker works on the fundamental frequency, key harmonics, tuning stability, and the balance between all the instrument's notes.
The final effect depends not only on the type of steel used, but also on the experience of the maker, the design of the handpan, the number of notes and the complexity of the chosen scale.
Makers' work on the Professional Series
Professional Series instruments are crafted by makers experienced in working with stainless steel and in creating versatile configurations designed for both beginners and more experienced musicians.
Each sound field is hand-shaped and then precisely tuned. This involves achieving the correct geometry and tension so that the note responds evenly to touch and remains in harmony with the other notes on the handpan.
During tuning, the maker works on the purity of the tone, its harmonic components, tuning stability, and balance of the entire instrument. This allows individual notes to form a coherent whole while retaining their own character and clarity.
The Professional Series is made primarily of stainless steel, with a bright, clear, and more direct sound. It includes handpans with 9 to 15 notes.
It is a good choice both for your first consciously chosen instrument and for regular playing, recording, relaxation and intimate performances.
Makers' work on the Mystical Series
Mystic Series instruments are made by makers experienced in more demanding projects: low-frequency handpans, mutants and models with an extensive note arrangement.
In this series, the central recesses of the sound fields, called dimples, are hand-crafted. The maker then manually shapes the entire sound fields and precisely tunes each note and its key harmonics.
Mystic Series handpans are crafted from premium stainless steel, producing a warmer, softer, and deeper sound. The increased craftsmanship and experience of the makers allow for more complex configurations while maintaining note clarity, sensitive touch response, and long sustain.
The Mystic Series customization includes instruments with up to 21 notes. Extended configurations are also available with additional notes located on the lower part of the handpan.
What are the differences between the two series?
Both series are linked by individual configuration preparation, instrument production by specialized makers, and manual work on the sound fields and their tuning.
The differences mainly concern the type of steel used, the character of the sound, the scope of manual work and the available design options.
- In the Professional Series The maker manually shapes and tunes the sound fields. The instruments have a clear, versatile sound and can have from 9 to 15 notes.
- In the Mystical Series The central recesses of the sound fields are also handcrafted. This series utilizes premium stainless steel and allows for more complex configurations, including those with notes on the lower part of the instrument.
Inspection of the finished instrument
Once the project is complete, I receive the finished handpan and personally test it in Gdańsk. I check its sound, tuning, response of individual sound fields, sustain, and the overall character of the instrument.
Only after this inspection is the handpan securely packaged and prepared for shipment. This ensures that before you receive your instrument, you can be sure it has been manufactured according to the agreed configuration and has undergone additional inspection of the finished piece.
