I test everyone handpan, which arrives at Miłość i Spokój – this is our quality standard. In this article, I present a detailed example from a recent delivery: I personally inspected three new units in Gdańsk.
From the maker's production video to my sound tests, I describe the entire process step by step. This way, you'll see how we ensure each instrument meets the highest standards before shipping to you.

Full Handpan Quality Control Process
The process begins with the maker, who sends a production video—the instrument has been tuned and is ready for evaluation. Together, we analyze the quality and decide on acceptance. If any corrections are needed, we report them at this stage.
It then undergoes finishing work and is then shipped to me in Gdansk. Here, I conduct full tests: unboxing, visually inspecting it, playing it for a few minutes, and recording a video with audio captured using a Rode condenser microphone—no effects, just as it sounds.
I check eight key criteria: note clarity (solo and dynamic), volume balance, chord harmonies, dynamic range, long, warm sustain, spacious sound, tuning stability, and overall playability (meditation, ethnic). If everything is in order, the handpan is shipped to the customer as a final product. Otherwise, it returns for retuning. Only a fully tested instrument is delivered to the customer.
A video from Maker's Production
Here's a video showing how your handpan is made in the maker's workshop:
The videos from the makers (located below in "Last Delivery Unpacking and Visual Tests") show the finished pieces after tuning – we evaluate them together before moving on to the next steps. At the maker's, we perform: steel shaping, hammering and calibrating the notes, preliminary tunes. 432/440 Hz. All recordings are authentic, unedited.
Unpacking the Last Delivery and Visual Testing
After finishing touches, the package arrives. I immediately check:
- Surface: natural hammer-struck texture, no deep scratches or dents? Paint even and free of bubbles?
- Completeness: all notes, bag?
- Condition after transport: no dents or damage?
Everything was in perfect condition with this delivery. Time for some sound testing.
